Here is our calendar of upcoming events in 2008 at the Maple Conservatory of Dance:

Saturday, May 9: Maple Youth Ballet’s Inaugural Kaleidoscope, An Invitation to the Dance -
This brand-new dance festival will unite an array of talented dance companies from across Southern California. This exciting event promises to be an evening of impressive dance repertory that will showcase a treasure trove of up-and-coming stars of ballet. View more information
- Saturday & Sunday, May 16 & 17: Maple Youth Ballet guest appearance with the Trudi Zipper Dance Institute at the Colburn School of Performing Arts at the Japan America Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. View more information
- Monday, May 25: Closed for the Memorial Day holiday; no classes will be held.
- Sunday, June 14: Maple Conservatory of Dance 2009 Showcase to be held at 2pm at Northwood Performing Arts Theatre in Irvine, featuring our talented Conservatory students in Levels B8-B1. *Reception to immediately follow after the performance.
- June 15-19: Conservatory parent observation/open house. All ballet technique classes are open to parent observation.
- Saturday, June 20: Last day of our Conservatory program's Spring term classes. Our regular Open Class Schedule will continue. Also, our end-of-year Conservatory Family Picnic at 2pm-6pm at Mason Regional Park (by Shelter 1) in Irvine.
- Wednesday, July 1: Deadline to register for our Conservatory program's Fall 2009 term classes.
- Saturday, July 4: Closed for the 4th of July holiday; no classes will be held.
- June 29-July 25: Advanced-Intermediate Intensive for male & female intermediate/advanced-level dancers ages 10-15. This intensive program will focus on developing strong, consistent classical technique, which is crucial for successful progress in ballet and other dance styles.
- June 29-August 22: Pre-Ballet Summer Sessions a series of fun-filled, quality Pre-Ballet summer classes for boys & girls ages 4-7. Classes will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays for 6-, 7- and 8-week sessions
- June 29-August 22: "Mini-Intensive" Summer Session For Beginning to Intermediate Dancers for young male & female dancers who wish to continue dancing and progress in their ballet technique after the end of our Conservatory's Spring term. All dancers ages 7 to 12 are welcome to apply!
- July 6-August 14: Summer Session For Advanced Dancers for advanced-level male & female dancers who wish to continue dancing and progress in their ballet technique after the end of our Conservatory's Spring term. All advanced-level dancers ages 15 to 24 are welcome to apply!
- July 27-August 22: Professional Training Workshop for male & female advanced-level dancers ages 15-24. This is an extraordinary program that focuses on specific and contrasting dance techniques lead by internationally-renowned dance mentors. This program is limited to 50 dancers.
- Saturday, August 1: Deadline to submit an application to our Conservatory's Professional Dance Division, which includes our Maple Youth Ballet pre-professional company for the 2009-2010 season.
- Saturday, August 8: Audition at 1pm-3pm for our Conservatory's Professional Dance Division.
- August 10-15: Placement classes will be held for students enrolled in our Conservatory program. Times to be announced.
- August 22-30: We will be closed; no Conservatory or open classes will take place.
August 31-September 4: Registration for our Fall term classes will be held (by appointment). Details will be communicated to students enrolled in our Conservatory program.
- August 31-September 5: Professional Division students begin pre-staging for our 2009 The Nutcracker production and other upcoming ballet works.
- Tuesday, September 8: Our Conservatory program's Fall term classes begin. Our regular Open Class Schedule will continue.
- Saturday, September 12: Rehearsals for our 2009 The Nutcracker production begin. Auditions for our Nutcracker production will be announced soon!
Past Calendar Events in 2008 & 2009
- Wednesday, January 2: First day of our Conservatory program's Winter term classes. Our Open Class Schedule will also resume.
- Saturday, January 12: Summer Lee Rhatigan, the Director of the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, will be teaching a master class to our Maple Youth Ballet company class (Pro Division Levels B4-B1) at 10am-12 Noon.
- Sunday, February 3: Open audition for our 2008 Summer Intensive Programs at the Maple Conservatory studios. Times are: ages 9-12 at 2pm-3:30pm and ages 13-22 at 4:00pm-6:00pm. Registration is one hour prior.
- Wednesday, February 6: Lawrence Pech, formerly with ABT and the San Francisco Ballet, will be teaching a master class at 4-5:30pm to our Level B4 students and at 6-7:30pm to all advanced level dancers ages 15+.
- Saturday & Sunday, March 1 & 2: Maple Youth Ballet to perform in South Bay Ballet's annual production of BRAVO! The Contemporary & Classical Dance Experience on Saturday at the James Armstrong Theatre in Torrance.
- Sunday, March 16: Open audition for our 2008 Summer Intensive Programs at the Maple Conservatory studios. Times are: ages 9-11 at 2pm-3:30pm and ages 12-22 at 4:00pm-6:00pm. Registration is 30 minutes prior.
- Thursday, March 27: All classes, except for Pre-Ballet classes, are cancelled due to our Coppelia rehearsals. Our Pre-Ballet classes will take place as scheduled.
- Friday, March 28: We are closed due to our Coppelia rehearsals.
- Saturday & Sunday, March 29 & 30: All classes, except for Pre-Ballet and Yoga Booty Ballet, are cancelled due to our Coppelia performances. Our Pre-Ballet and Yoga Booty Ballet classes will take place as scheduled.
Saturday & Sunday, March 29 & 30: Our full-length production of the ballet Coppelia, A Timeless Romantic Comedy. Choreography by Charles Maple. Performances are at 2pm. Learn more
- Wednesday, April 2: Nancy Raffa will be teaching a master class at 6:30pm-8:30pm for all advanced level dancers ages 15+.
- Saturday, April 5: Last day of the Conservatory program's Winter term classes.
- Monday, April 7: First day of our Conservatory program's Spring term classes. Our Open Class Schedule will also resume.
- Saturday, April 12: Choreography Composition workshop at 12:30pm-1:30pm for Professional Division students led by Charles Maple & Chris Martin. Classical Division students in Levels B4-B1 may also attend.
- Friday & Saturday, April 18 & 19: Maple Youth Ballet to participate in Dance Peninsula Ballet's Ballet Showcase production at the Norris Center for the Performing Arts in Rolling Hills Estates, California. Performances are at 8pm on Friday, April 18 and at 2:30pm on Saturday, April 19.
- Sunday, April 27: Maple Youth Ballet to perform in Media City Ballet's Ballet Russe Remembered production at 7:30pm at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California. Media City Ballet revisits the depth and beauty of the Ballet Russe repertory with its daring, artistic choices, its gorgeous delivery and promise.
- Saturday, May 3: The Maple Youth Ballet is proud to be part of the Orange County Imagination Celebration as it sponsors The Magic of Dance and Imagination at the Maple Conservatory studios at 2pm-4:30pm. This free event is open to the entire community and will feature the Maple Youth Ballet performing excerpts from Coppelia and The Nutcracker. View our event program (pdf)
- Saturday, May 10: Maple Youth Ballet to perform in The Colburn Dance Institute's Professional Training Program's Spring Concert at 3pm at the Japan America Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Admission is free.
- Friday, May 16: Come to our Friends of the Maple Youth Ballet meeting at 5:30pm. The Friends of the MYB is a support organization that will enable parents & friends to help Maple Youth Ballet fulfill its mission. Read Pili Doheny's letter announcing the Friends of the MYB »
- Sunday, June 1: Our Spring Student Showcase production featuring varied choreography by modern & classical masters, as well as original works by our Classical and Professional Division students! To be held at 2pm-4:30pm at the University High School Theatre in Irvine.
Maple Youth Ballet Dinner Fundraiser to immediately follow at 6pm-9pm. Featured will be a family-style dinner, dessert & entertainment. All net proceeds will benefit the Maple Youth Ballet.
- June 1-July 15: Registration for our Conservatory program's Fall term, which begin on Tuesday, September 2. This includes our Creative Movement/Pre-Ballet, Classical Dance and Professional Dance Divisions.
- Saturday, June 14: Last day of the Conservatory program's Spring term classes.
- Sunday, June 15: Our Pre-Ballet Student Showcase featuring our Conservatory's Pre-Ballet students to be held at the Maple Conservatory studios at 3pm.
- June 16-20: Our 5-day Technique Intensive Program for intermediate-advanced and advanced male & female dancers ages 13 & older.
- June 16-July 25: Our 4-6 week Summer Session For Beginning/ Intermediate Dancers for male & female dancers ages 8-12.
- June 30-July 26: Our 4-week Summer Intensive Program, which is for male & female dancers ages 12-22.
- Friday, July 4: There will be no open classes due to the 4th of July holiday. Open classes will resume on Saturday, July 5.
- Monday, July 7, 2008: "Meet the Artist" Lecture by Cynthia Gregory, former principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre at 3:30pm-5pm. Limited spaces are open to the public. Contact us to reserve your space.
- Saturday, July 26, 2008: Summer Intensive Student Showcase performance at 3pm-4:15pm at Northwood High School Performing Arts Theatre in Irvine. Tickets are on sale at the Maple Conservatory for $15.00 for adults and children 4 & older. Limited tickets will also be on sale up at the theatre, to one hour before the performance.
- Thursday, July 24, 2008: History of the Ballet Russes by Rochelle Zide-Booth, former Ballet Russes soloist and former principal dancer with The Joffrey Ballet at 5:15pm-6:15pm, followed by a master class for intermediate dancers ages 10-13. Both the lecture and master class are open to the public. The lecture is $15.00 per person and the master class is $25.00 per person. Complete our Master Class Registration form (pdf) and return it with payment to reserve your place!
Saturday, August 2, 2008: Audition for our Professional Dance Division at 1-3pm. Interested students ages 13-19 must submit a completed application along with the application fee to be considered.
- Monday, August 4, 2008: Rehearsals begin for Balanchine's Serenade ballet for our Professional Dance Division students. Serenade will be staged by Maple Conservatory faculty member & Balanchine Trust repetiteur Shawn Stevens.
- August 4-16, 2008: Our 2-week Junior Intensive Program for our intermediate male & female dancers ages 9-11. No pointe experience is required for female dancers.
- Saturday, August 9, 2008: We will be holding a special scholarship audition for all interested male dancers ages 8 & older at 2pm-3:30pm for ages 8 to 12 years and at 4pm-6pm for ages 13 & older. We will award partial & full tuition scholarships to those male dancers who qualify.
- Sunday, August 10, 2008: Master class by Leslie Browne, former principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre at 10am-12 Noon for intermediate/advanced & advanced dancers ages 14 & older. The master class is open to the public and the master class is $30.00 per person. Complete our Master Class Registration form (pdf) and return it with payment to reserve your place!
- August 11-22, 2008: Our 2-week Technique Intensive For Advanced Dancers Program for advanced male & female dancers ages 12-23.
- Saturday & Sunday, August 23 & 24, 2008: Fall placement classes for our new & returning Conservatory students, ages 7-19. Placement class schedules are posted on the bulletin board at the Maple Conservatory. Or check our Parent Portal.
- Monday, September 1, 2008: We are closed due to the Labor Day holiday. Conservatory and open classes will begin on September 2..
- Tuesday, September 2, 2008: First day of our Conservatory program's Fall term classes. Our regular Open Class Schedule will also resume.
- Saturday, September 6, 2008: Auditions for our The Nutcracker full-length ballet ballet to be held in December, featuring choreography by Charles Maple and brand-new stage sets & costumes.
- Saturday, September 13, 2008: Dance Nutrition workshop at 12:30pm-2pm for Professional Division students led by certified nutritionist Erika Conklin. Classical Division students ages 14+ may also attend, as well as dancers from the surrounding community for $25 per person.
- Sunday, September 28, 2008: The Maple Youth Ballet will perform at the 6th annual Festival of Children program on at 12 Noon & 1:30pm at South Coast Plaza in the Jewel Court (between Nordstrom & Saks Fifth Avenue) in Costa Mesa.
- Saturday, October 4, 2008: The Maple Youth Ballet will perform at the City of Irvine's annual Global Village Festival at 11:25am-11:45am at Bill Barber Park at 4 Civic Center Plaza (north of Harvard & Alton) in Irvine.
- Sunday, November 23, 2008: An Evening With Cynthia Gregory featuring guest speaker Cynthia Gregory, former principal dancer of American Ballet Theatre and America's prima ballerina absoluta. This dinner event is open to the entire community and all proceeds will benefit the Maple Youth Ballet.
- Thursday-Saturday, November 27-30, 2008: We are closed. Open classes and Conservatory classes will resume on Monday, December 1.
- Saturday, November 29, 2008: Last day of our Conservatory program's Fall term classes. Our regular Open Class Schedule will continue.
Monday, December 1, 2008: First day of our Conservatory program's Winter term classes. Our regular Open Class Schedule will continue.
- December 20-22, 2008: Maple Youth Ballet's full-length The Nutcracker ballet to be held at the Northwood Performing Arts Theatre in Irvine on December 20-22 for five performances. View more details and purchase tickets online
- December 22, 2008-January 4, 2009: No Conservatory classes to be held.
- Saturday, January 24: Audition for our 2009 Summer Intensive Programs for ages 10-24.
- February 7: Maple Youth Ballet guest appearance with the Los Angeles Youth Ballet Theatre at the Madrid Theatre in Canoga Park, performing George Balanchine’s timeless classic Valse Fantaisie.
- Sunday, February 15: Audition for our 2009 Summer Intensive Programs for ages 10-24.
- Saturday, March 14: Last day of our Conservatory program's Winter term classes. Our regular Open Class Schedule will continue.
- Sunday, March 15: Audition for our 2009 Summer Intensive Programs for ages 10-24.
- Monday, March 16: First day of our Conservatory program's Spring term classes. Our regular Open Class Schedule will continue.
- Saturday & Sunday, March 28 & 29: “A Taste of Ballet”, a delicious entertainment for the whole family, showcasing highlights from the most beloved dance classics, including favorite fairytale ballets and exciting works from the Ballet Russe and other noted neo-classical choreographers.
