Elementary Division (Ages 4-8)
We offer a flexible schedule based on 4 sessions of 11 weeks each per year: Fall, Winter, Spring & Summer.
No prior dance training is required to enroll in our Elementary Division, which consists of these classes & levels:
- Pre-Ballet I & II (ages 4+)
- Preparatory Ballet (ages 6-8)
Tuition is based on the number of classes taken per week. Dancers may choose to take additional classes. These classes are available at a reduced rate and are added to the monthly tuition.
Class enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes are closed once capacity is reached.
Dancers in our Elementary Division will have opportunities to perform in our annual Maple Conservatory of Dance June Showcase and with our pre-professional company, the Maple Youth Ballet, and when ready, are invited to continue their dance training and education in our Conservatory’s Classical Dance Division.
Our Conservatory Faculty for Young Dancers
All classes for our young dancers ages 4-8 are taught by our fantastic Maple Conservatory faculty Pili Doheny, Sara Day, Emma Walsh, and Suzanne Westmoreland
Ms. Doheny graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Psychology with an emphasis in Child Development. In the 1990s Ms. Doheny trained and performed at The Ballet Academy of Northern Virginia under the direction of Madame Solange Binda. Here she helped the director in several areas with particular emphasis on administrative tasks and working with parents in preparation for their annual recital. View Ms. Doheny’s full biography→
Ms. Day Turned her attention to teaching at an early age and was awarded a full scholarship to study pedagogy with Jeno Gal of Magyar Tancmûvészeti Fõiskola in Vagonova Method and also became certified in ballet instruction through Dance Masters of America. Mrs. Day has served on the Board of Directors for the Newport Beach Theater Company and Dance Discovery Foundation. From 2001-2009 Mrs. Day owned and directed American Ballet and Conditioning, a ballet school with a secondary focus of Pilates conditioning. She then founded and was the Artistic Director of South Coast Ballet Theater in addition to teaching ballet at South Coast Conservatory. She has choreographed, produced, and directed many ballets such as Cinderella, Le Corsaire, Paquita, Firebird, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere, The Nutcracker, Peter Pan, Les Sylphides, Giselle, Swan Lake, and Coppelia in addition to creating numerous contemporary and classical works. Ms. Walsh is a California native whose passion for dance developed at the early age of four. She began her dance training with Civic Dance Center in Bakersfield, California, where she studied ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and hip hop. As a member of Imagine Ballet Company, she had the opportunity to perform at the Regional Dance America Pacific festival where she was recognized as an honor student from her company. She recently graduated from UC Irvine in 2017, and holds a B.F.A. in Dance Performance, magna cum laude, and a B.A. in Education Sciences with a Specialization in Children’s Learning and Development, summa cum laude. Ms. Westmoreland Suzanne Westmoreland is a native Californian, born in Hollywood and raised in Los Angeles. She has been a student of ballet since the age of five, studying as a child with Sheila Rozann, then later as an adult with Stanley Holden and Margaret Hills.
